Focused Shock Wave Therapy (fESWT)

Focused shock wave therapy (fESWT) is a non-invasive procedure in which high-energy shock waves are precisely focused deep into the affected tissue. These targeted impulses stimulate the body's own healing processes and produce several therapeutic effects:

  • Pain relief: By influencing nociceptive pain receptors and inhibiting pain-amplifying messengers such as substance P, chronic pain can be significantly reduced.
  • Anti-inflammatory effect: The focused energy input can modulate neurogenic inflammatory processes and activate regenerative signaling pathways in the tissue, reducing inflammatory reactions.
  • Promotion of regeneration and healing: The targeted depth effect stimulates blood circulation and angiogenesis. This supports the repair processes in tendons, muscles, cartilage and bone and promotes the restoration of function and load capacity.

In this way, focused shock wave therapy offers a particularly precise and deeply effective option for treating chronic musculoskeletal conditions – without surgical intervention.

Focused Shock Wave Therapy with Dolorclast® Focused Shock Waves

High energy and targeted focusing for better therapy results!

  • The piezoelectric technology of the DolorClast® Focused Shock Waves allows precise focusing of the shock waves directly in the target tissue. This achieves particularly high energy transfer while at the same time reducing energy losses. Only through this targeted focusing can high-energy shock waves be applied evenly and reliably.
  • The DolorClast® Focused handpiece is specifically designed to ensure a consistently high energy density even with repeated applications and higher frequencies. This enables greater tissue depths to be reached and expands the treatment options to a wider range of pathologies.
DolorClast® Focused Shock Waves vs. competitor – acoustic characterisation

Compared to other products on the market, the focused shock wave device from EMS achieves significantly more effective clinical results thanks to its high energy density. For therapy success, what matters most is high energy per impulse – a greater number of impulses cannot compensate for a low energy level.

Product Features

1. Direct focusing: the key to high energy output

  • The direct focusing of the shock waves is achieved exclusively through piezoelectric technology and enables high energy output with minimal losses.
  • The DolorClast® Focused handpiece ensures consistent delivery of high-energy shock waves and thus achieves a higher energy density than comparable devices – with correspondingly better clinical results.
  • Long service life of the handpiece of over 5 million impulses.

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

What is focused shock wave therapy?

Focused shock wave therapy (fESWT) is a non-invasive treatment method in which high-energy shock waves are focused deep into the affected tissue. These targeted impulses activate the body's own healing processes and produce several therapeutic effects: relief of pain and inflammation as well as promotion of regeneration and healing.

Which indications are suitable for focused shock wave therapy?

Focused shock wave therapy is ideal for acute and chronic musculoskeletal pathologies and for particularly pain-sensitive patients. Common indications for focused shock wave therapy include:

  • Pain syndromes (myofascial pain, greater trochanter pain, trigger points, lumbar and cervical pain, pelvic pain)
  • Tendinopathies and fasciopathies
  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Erectile dysfunction

Who is authorised to operate the focused shock wave device?

In Austria, the use of focused shock wave devices is reserved exclusively for physicians.

What distinguishes the focused shock wave device from EMS from other shock wave devices on the market?

Compared to other devices on the market, the focused shock wave device from EMS achieves significantly more effective clinical results due to its high energy density. For therapy success, high energy per impulse is the decisive factor – a greater number of impulses cannot compensate for a low energy level.

Where can I learn more about the correct application and effective use of focused shock wave therapy?

In cooperation with EMS and the Physiozentrum für Weiterbildung, we offer regular workshops on shock wave therapy in Austria. Detailed information about course content, locations and dates can be found here.

What does a focused shock wave device from EMS cost?

The price is set individually according to your requirements, the desired configuration and the financing model (purchase on account, rental, leasing). We are happy to provide the device for 14 days free of charge for testing in your practice – including personal training by our medical device consultant.
