Radial shock wave therapy
EMS Dolorclast® Radial Shock Waves
For the effective treatment of superficial, subacute or chronic complaints of the musculoskeletal system.

Radial shock wave therapy (rESWT)
Radial shock wave therapy (rESWT) is a gentle, non-invasive procedure in which high-energy shock waves are introduced into the affected tissue in a targeted manner. These impulses stimulate the body's own healing processes and have several therapeutic effects:
- Pain relief: The shock waves inhibit the release of substance P, a messenger substance that amplifies pain signals, and thus contribute to a noticeable reduction in pain.
- Anti-inflammatory effect: By reducing neurogenic inflammation and promoting scleraxis expression, the therapy supports the regulation of inflammatory processes in the tissue.
- Promotion of regeneration and healing: The improved blood circulation and stimulation of angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) promote the repair of damaged fibers. At the same time, the regeneration of tendons, muscles, cartilage and bones is supported, which facilitates the restoration of mobility and function of the affected tissue.
In this way, radial shock wave therapy offers an effective and targeted way of treating musculoskeletal complaints in the long term without the need for surgical intervention.

Radial shock wave therapy - maximum energy is the key to your therapeutic success!
Link to the full study
- A higher energy setting for radial shock wave devices increases cavitation in the tissue: as the energy increases, so does the pressure and therefore the intensity of the cavitation processes.
- This cavitation is crucial, as it activates biological reactions that would not be triggered under normal conditions and thus contributes significantly to the therapeutic effect.
- Studies show that it is not the number of pulses that is decisive, but above all a sufficiently high energy per pulse in order to achieve optimum treatment results.
The radial shock wave device from EMS is designed to achieve constant and effective cavitation levels even at higher frequencies - a performance feature that many devices in the low-energy range do not fulfill.

Questions and answers - FAQ
What is radial shock wave therapy?
Radial shock wave therapy is a non-invasive, mechanical treatment method for superficial and subacute to chronic disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The DolorClast Radial Shock Waves is the most powerful radial shock wave device on the market. With two integrated compressors, an optimized compressed air management system and frequencies up to 25 Hz, it generates a particularly high energy density and cavitation for optimal clinical results.
Which indications are particularly suitable for radial shock wave therapy?
Radial shock wave therapy is ideal for superficial subacute and chronic musculoskeletal pathologies. Common indications include
- Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow
- Plantar fasciitis / heel spur
- Calcified shoulder (tendinosis calcarea)
- Achillodynia
- Patella tip syndrome (jumper's knee)
- Trochanteric bursitis
- Myofascial pain syndromes and trigger points
- Extensive muscle injuries
Thanks to the high power, even large treatment areas can be treated quickly and effectively.
What distinguishes the radial shock wave device from EMS from devices from other manufacturers?
The DolorClast Radial Shock Waves outperforms its competitors with up to 200 % higher energy density at frequencies from 15 Hz. It is the only device with two integrated compressors, a patent in the handpiece for maximum energy transfer, an air hose with an extra-large inner diameter and vibration-reducing shock absorbers. In addition, quick-twist applicators and an integrated RFID tag enable particularly easy and low-maintenance use.
What is the difference between radial shock wave therapy and focused shock wave therapy?
Radial shock wave therapy spreads over a wide area and is ideal for superficial structures (up to approx. 3-5 cm deep) and large-area treatments. Focused shock wave therapy, on the other hand, concentrates the energy selectively and reaches greater depths (up to approx. 12 cm).
In Austria, physiotherapists are allowed to use radial shock wave therapy after appropriate training and on medical prescription, while focused shock wave therapy is reserved for doctors.
How mobile is the DolorClast Radial Shock Waves?
The radial shock wave weighs only approx. 15 kg and is very compact. It is supplied with a practical transport case so that you can easily take it with you to home visits or external assignments. A mobile cart is optionally available for daily use in the practice, allowing radial shock wave therapy to be used flexibly and on the move throughout the practice.
Is treatment with the radial shock wave device painful?
The treatment can be unpleasant to slightly painful, especially for sensitive patients or painful pathologies. However, this slight pain is a sign that the therapy is working (stimulation of blood circulation and tissue regeneration). It usually subsides immediately after treatment. At the start of therapy, the device should be started with low pressure (a few "bars") in order to optimize tolerance.
How many treatments are usually necessary for radial shock wave therapy?
In most cases, 4-8 sessions at intervals of 5-10 days are sufficient. The DolorClast Radial Shock Waves supports you with 5 intelligent smart protocols and various action modes as well as 7 flexible applicators. Large areas can be treated extremely quickly thanks to the 25 Hz frequency - 5,000 pulses with maximum energy are possible in just approx. 3:20 minutes.
What should I pay particular attention to when using the radial shock wave device?
Important practical tips for a long service life and safe use:
- When changing the applicator, always ensure that there is a sealing ring between the applicator and the drive system and that it is neither too tight nor too loose (risk of damage!).
- Check sealing rings regularly for porosity.
- Only use gel that is not too thin.
- Disassemble used applicators after the working day and clean with soapy water (no disinfectants containing alcohol).
- At high temperatures and humidity, condensation may form under the appliance.
- Secure the device with the screws supplied and do not leave it in a hot or cold car when using it on the move.
Are there opportunities for further training and support for the effective use of the radial shock wave?
Yes, we attach great importance to safe and effective application. We offer very regular practical workshops throughout Austria as well as personal consultations and shadowing sessions with EMS experts. If you take on the radial shock wave, you will receive comprehensive training directly in your practice or clinic.
How much does the DolorClast Radial Shock Waves cost and how does the consultation work?
The price is determined individually according to your requirements, the desired equipment and the financing model (purchase on account, rental, leasing). We will be happy to provide you with the device for 14 days free of charge for testing in your practice - including personal training by our medical product consultant.
